Set on an island in a lonely loch, Braeburn Castle is accessible only by boat. The castle has been slowly mouldering into the cold waters for centuries, but someone tries to remedy the decay. And then strange events begin. A skeleton is unearthed during renovations, awakening memories of an ancient curse.
There is a golden crown upon the skull of the skeleton – is it Black Dougal and what does it mean? Then the skull and crown disappear, rousing fear and suspicion – and ghosts are heard to walk in the dark of the night.
The Braeburn’s call Lennox to come and help uncover the mysteries and the murders which follow.
Another outstanding read from Karen Menuhin, I loved catching up with Lennox and Mr Fogg, I love these characters they are so real, very cleverly written as always and so well researched I felt as though I was inside the castle, very atmospheric and a brilliant plot and the ending was a big surprise.
Excellent and intriguing read. Could not put it down until I had finished it. Well worth reading the complete series as each book has a different twist.
It kept me guessing to the end which to me is the mark of a first rate mystery. I thought for a long while I'd figured out where the story was leading but I was so wrong. This is expert story telling. Plus, what's not to love about a cheeky, eligible bachelor who carries a kitten in his pocket and keeps an adorable dog at his heels. I'm looking forward to more adventures with the dazzling Carruthers. It's thrilling there's another story in the works. Can't wait!
