It’s 1920 and Christmas is coming. Major Lennox finds a body on his doorstep – why on his doorstep? Was it to do with the Countess? Was it about the ruby necklace? Lennox must go to Melrose Court home to his uncle, Lord Melrose, to uncover the mystery. But then the murders start and it snows and suddenly everything becomes very complicated.
Fantastic book - Intriguing, well crafted and with that rare beast for the genre, humour. The characters are quirky, flawed and very much alive - real humanity. I couldn’t put it down and ended up still reading gone 1am!
I adored this book!!! The characters are so full and enjoyable, the settings gorgeous and the story superb! If you enjoy wandering around stately and historic homes in England as well the etiquette and traditions of a bygone era then you will love this cosy, fireside read. The world that Karen so brilliantly describes is utterly enchanting. So good I had to read the second in the series straight away!
1920s classic crime, murder and humour all wrapped up like a present under the Christmas tree. Great cast of characters and setting. Couldn't put this down, wasn't sure who the killer was until the killer was revealed!
