Major Heathcliff Lennox – ex WW 1 pilot, 6feet 3inch, tousled dark blond hair, age around 30 – named after the hero of Wuthering Heights by his romantically minded mother – much to his great annoyance. Mary-Rose Lennox died when Heathcliff was 12, his father, Hugh, holed up at their home at the Manor, Ashton Steeple, where he remained until his death shortly after the war’s end in 1918. His last gift to Lennox was Mr Fogg, a runtish golden spaniel of little brain but great heart. Foggy is Lennox’s constant companion.
The Great War was spent fighting the Boche as a pilot in the Royal Flying Corps (subsequently the RAF). He flew Sopwith Camels amongst others. There were also spells spent on the front line, which left deep scars.
Greggs, stalwart butler, and valet remained by Lennox’s side and they both returned to the peaceful Manor in the countryside near Ashton Steeple. Greggs developed a liking for good Irish Whiskey. Lennox returned to country pursuits, hunting, fishing and walking his dog – until the events at Melrose Court, which rather changed things…
